Photography can be one of the hardest art forms to master as it requires both natural ability coupled with a lot of hard work. Instantly converting photographs to pieces of art is as simple as selecting the “filter” button, choosing which medium you prefer, then clicking your selection.
Skies that are overcast should be avoided in photographs. A large swath of gray washes out a photo, giving a muted look to the entire shot. If you really want or need a shot in overcast conditions, try a black and white picture to maximize contrast and improve the overall picture. If it is a nice day outside, put as much of the blue sky in your pictures as you would like, but be careful with the lighting.
Creating depth in your photographs will add interest and perspective to landscape shots. Give an idea of the scale by including a subject somewhere in the foreground. A small aperture–no more than f/8 on a digital camera and no more than f/16 on a SLR–can show sharpness in both the background and foreground.
When deciding on which shots to display, choose the best ones. Resist the urge to show people every photo, especially multiple shots of the same person or subject. If the subjects will be wearing bright colors, offsetting them with black clothing pieces helps avoid a group of clashing colors in the picture.
Once you decide to take a photo, hurry up and do it. You never know when that “perfect” moment can disappear, so be prepared to get it at any moment. You can easily miss a special moment in time when animals get antsy, and smiles wear thin on your subjects. Do not worry excessively with getting all of the settings just right on your camera, or you will risk losing the shot.
To take the best photographs ensure that you have focused directly on your subject. When a photo is properly focused, the result will be perfectly composed shots. For beginners, your best photos will have the subject in the center and fully in view. Don’t worry too much about the background. Just leave it alone.
To create images that stand out from the ordinary, try photographing from different viewpoints. Photos taken from a straight-on angle can be taken by virtually anyone. Consider getting high up to look down at your subjects, or get down and look up to take a picture of them. Consider framing an interesting shot from a skewed angle or at a diagonal angle.
